Some of the core teachings were taken out because they were viewed as being "too Jewish." Scripture says not to add to or take away from what God commanded, but that is just what happened at the Council of Nicaea.
"Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you." (Deuteronomy 4:2, KJV)
